Countdown!

Readers have made an amazing response to our final appeal, for $25,000 to fund more original reporting. Since our last update, a mere three hours ago, we went from being 14 shy of meeting our donor goal of new donor goal of 1350 to being 22 over at 1372. And we were then $960 below our $25,000 goal but have now exceeded it by $1305!

And we got support for our fundraiser on Twitter. For instance:

Only a few hours remain in the Naked Capitalism fundraiser. Show your support of critical thinking, merciless evisceration of lame punditry, deep diving into turbid financial waters, and cute animal pictures.

Every dollar you give now goes to support more original reporting. And even though we’re delighted to have raised $25,000, consider how modest that is compared to newsroom budgets, let alone that of the think tanks whose output we regularly take down. Make a high-leverage investment in exposing the fabrications that help

Be one of the last to push our fundraiser over the top. Let’s see if we can get to 1400 donors and provide even more funding for original reporting before the close of this effort, midnight PST. Every donation helps get us towards our goals and make this site even better. Perhaps one of you can take up the request of reader jp:

I am donating, even though I am severely underemployed. If one o’ yews could do Yves and Lambert a favor and donate a “pass it fwd” thing, I would appreciate it a lot, my donation is so small it’s pitiful.

But I needed to do that, more as a statement then a useful contribution. I have been reading NC for a while, but only in the last year have I fully begun to understand the importance and depth it brings (now) twice a day.

Hope it goes on, we need it.

There are multiple ways to give. The first is the fundraiser page, where you can use a debit card, a credit card or a PayPal account (the charge will be in the name of Aurora Advisors).

You can also send a check (or multiple post-dated checks) in the name of Aurora Advisors Incorporated to

Aurora Advisors Incorporated
903 Park Avenue, 8th Floor
New York, NY 10075

Please also send an e-mail to yves@nakedcapitalism.com with the headline “Check is in the mail” (and just the $ en route in the message) to have your contribution included in the total number of donations.

Again, I’m overwhelmed by this response from readers. Lambert and I want to give a big thanks to all of you who have donated already. If you can give a little, give a little. If you can give more, give more. If you can give a lot, give a lot. You are investing in creating a different debate, a different vision, and a different, more just society.

Unfortunately Paypal is not being very helpful. I live in Japan and Paypal Japan doesn’t seem to allow the payment abroad. I tried using my credit card directly but no luck – I just get a message saying the payment wasn’t accepted without any indication of why. A google search suggests that Paypal won’t allow direct payments with credit cards already registered with Paypal. Cheques are not used much in Japan so that route isn’t really open to me either.
I have donated before so I’m not sure why these problems are coming up now

I’m sorry for all the trouble. Several other donors overseas also reported PayPal hell. It might have to do with the way the US has been cracking down on foreign banks for money laundering, and your bank’s card processor might have decided to get to be super stringent (I mean, why should any AML types be worried about a small donation going from Japan to the US?)

Thanks for your effort to support our work.

Pity I can’t get it to work. I would like to be able to provide more than moral support. But for what it’s worth, keep up the good work – your site has become my first stopping point when it comes to news. Your coverage of the Greek crisis was especially appreciated.

It’s just past 12:00 EDT, so I guess the official fundraiser is over. For those who couldn’t participate within this window, remember that contributions and subscriptions are appreciated any time of the year.

Yves, Lambert, et al, you are the greatest. Thank you and keep up the good work!
