Yippee! Met Our Second Target! On to the Third: Continuing Expanded News Coverage

Thanks to those who have donated so far for your prompt and generous gifts! Your generous support makes our work possible!

Our next target, as we explain more fully below, is continuing our expanded daily Links. Many of you tell is how you start the day, and for those outside Americas time zones, is often a major and in many cases a main new source. So help us keep this vital asset up to your high standards!

We’ve at 421 donations, and so moving towards fundraiser target of 1100 donors. We are also getting a higher-than-in-past-years number of first-time donors, some of whom have also made hefty contributions. This is a very encouraging sign for the long-term health of this enterprise.

Offsetting that is that the total number of donations at this time is a bit behind the level of some past years. We know that quite a few our our loyal readers and backers have yet to chip in. So please, when you have a few free minutes, visit the Tip Jar and help keep this community in fine fettle.

We also appreciate messages of support like this one from Cassandra:

I am sending $100 to support your work, for which I am most grateful. I wish it were more. It is so hard to discern reality among the ever-changing narratives; your collation of data from multiple angles is an essential part of my daily effort to understand the world. Amidst the constant gaslighting, it is such a comfort to read other voices saying, “Yes, I see it, too.”

With deepest appreciation for you, Lambert, and the team.

And from regulars like The Rev Kev:

Just now made a donation to NC via PayPal. Hard to think of what it would be like on a net without Naked Capitalism as the lights of independent media are being snuffed out right across the board. Certainly it would be a lot harder having to go through all the garbage sites pumping out garbage articles. And life is too short to try to sort through all that stuff but Naked Capitalism does a great job of bringing so many articles and posts all to one place so cheers.

And Keith H:

The check is for $250 this time. I would definitely be lost without NakedCapitalism. Thank you for your tireless work, and for all the efforts of the terrific NC team.

A key virtue of the daily Links, is that we introduce readers to other sites and voices. From Debbie G:

Check for $50.00 is in the mail. (Wish it could be more)

Thanks for all you and the rest of the team do. I have learned much from you and the other “bloggers” plus been introduced to people that I would never have “met” otherwise – like Michael Hudson, the Duran Boys, Jeffrey Sachs, John Mersheimer, Aaron Mate/Max Blumenthal, Alastair Crooke and the list goes on……

With gratitude.

Even more important, we clipped nicely through our first two goals. The first was $25,000 to provide for more technology investments in the site. We’ve had to invest heavily here in recent years due to a more hostile external environment, including moving our main and backup servers out of the US. So good for you for helping us support mundane but absolutely critical budget items. This is our foundation for all the content we provide. The second was $22,000 for supporting the comments section. Again. you speedy donations showed how much you value those vibrant and information-rich discussions, just as we value the eagle-eyed reactions to our posts (including typo alerts and link fixes!).

But these are only our initial targets. If you haven’t had time to contribute yet, we hope you’ll go to our Tip Jar pronto, which shows you how to give by check, debit or credit card or PayPal.

Our next goal is $27,000 for continuing our expanded Links section.

I do not want to overpromise, but I will be in New York City at the end of October. We might be able to do a meetup IF readers can find a venue with a lot of outdoor space that we could commandeer. Even with trying to keep as much of the mixing and mingling outside as possible, yours truly would be masked nearly all the time. I am concerned about whether we can successfully minimize contagion risk while making sure the venue gets enough drinks order so as to be happy with our occupation.

Back to the current target: of 3 AM EDT, we already have $2,115 towards that target.

As we explained in our kickoff post, we expanded our Links section from the pre-Covid maximum of 45 links to now 55 to 60. This may not seem like much, but it represents a day-in, day-out commitment of additional staffing, as in an ongoing increase of manning of the site, which means more budget needs.

On top of that, particularly due to Lambert’s and Conor’s interest in finding non-MSM source, we have more diversity of content and perspectives (particularly from abroad) than before. So it takes more effort to provide your morning guide to what’s happening.

So those of you who have contributed already, thanks again for your generous support, and we look forward to those NC fans who have just found out about the fundraiser donating through the Tip Jar to help make the site more successful.

Sent 50 for the first time in a few years. Wish I could afford more. I visit this site almost every day and value your fine work and the relationships here.

Have very much appreciated Conor’s essays this year.

Good luck with reaching your goals :)
