Yves here. Below we have embedded a presentation by a long-standing friend of the site on CalPERS and foreclosure fraud topics, Michael Cohen, a California attorney specializing in insurance. His guide for burned or partly-burned out Los Angeles fire victims with home insurance sets forth the considerable protections that California law provides for policy-holders. That includes fine points insurers could otherwise use to delay or deny claims, such as allowing homeowners to submit lists of damaged/destroyed items in their own form, as opposed to filling out insurer forms, if the homeowner documents include the required information, and “bulk listing” certain destroyed goods, like “15 books” as opposed to having to provide the title of each. California is apparently wise to insurer tricks!
Cohen’s talk explains the many important features of how benefits categories operate under California law and how insurers are required to act immediately with respect to certain important provisions, such as “Additional Living Expenses”.
I hope readers will send this document to fire victims in California to make sure they don’t become insurer victims too.

Altadena is where many Black homeowners settled in the 60’s, I believe it’s 31% Black. Our councilmember Carroll Fife lived there and her Uncle’s home burnt down during the Eaton Fire. Here is a link if anyone interested in donating, your comment will insure it goes to Altadena relief efforts.
Rental trucks will be heading down next weekend. AIM Foothills has donated boxes of coats from One Warm Coat, anyone local to the East Bay wants to help out I will share drop-off location when it’s announced and what is needed.
If this type of request for assistance isn’t ok, apologies.
